A new friend of mine told me that I should get on Substack because this is the place where creatives are… specifically authors. I suppose that describes me. 🤷🏻♂️
I never imagined this sentence would come out of my mouth… I just released my second book. It’s called MADE ALIVE. It is a discipleship study that people can do together to learn about overcoming death and living a MADE ALIVE life. I certainly mean this in a spiritual way. I can’t help people live on earth forever, but Jesus can give us hope beyond the “here and now.”
My first book, The suffering guy, shares the story of suffering in my married life. My wife, Alisha, has a rare chronic illness that set in 3 months after we got married. For nearly 18 years, she has continued to go downhill… hundreds of nights in the hospital, dozens of surgeries, and two near-death experiences have taken a toll on us. In the midst of it, however, God has done the absurd to give us real hope and purpose. I despise the amount of suffering we have gone through, but I am actually really grateful for it now because it has given me a platform to help people.
I am the founder of tiller coaching. We exist to coach people through the “expectation gap.” This is where our reality is far from what we expect in life and disappointment, dissatisfaction, and distress can take a real toll on any of us. We offer coaching at no cost to anyone who is aware of the gap in their life and needs a pastor to walk alongside them.
So, that’s a little info about me. Much of what I will be sharing here on Substack will be about giving “tiller tips” (the bits of coaching that seem to be universally helpful) as well as sharing about the journey of being an author. Shout out to Joy Eggerichs Reed for the encouragement to start here. I hope this stack will be a benefit to people!
